Our kitchen

Now with yellow!

(I used the leftover paint from our old kitchen.)

Dogs

They wear their hearts on their sleeves.

Granola

Why not make some?

Put your dry ingredients in a pot:

For example, rolled oats, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds.

Stir and toast.

Add some honey! Also: maple syrup if you have some. Glug in some vegetable oil (you don't need that much).

Stir stir stir.

Looking good.

Now: put a thinnish layer of the mixture in a flat pan in a 350-degree oven.

Toast it until it just starts to get brown around the edges.

When it's all done, add some dried fruit. Stir. And...you got granola!

Easy and delicious. Do it!

10 cents!

When's the last time you bought something for a dime?

Advice:

Don't try to crack your joints after you've had a few drinks.

You might just break your own toe.

Thank you.

And this!

Whoa. I want me some of that yarn!

Thanks design*sponge!

GASP!

I am SO going to make one of these!

More images here.

Ladies & Gentlemen, y'all are geniuses with the crochet.

MoMA store

I rarely ever buy anything there—there's never much that I want to own, even with the incentive of a 40–50% discount.

BUT! This fall:

American Modern Pitcher, designed in 1939 by Russel Wright. Isn't it awesome?

Cappello Hat, designed by Ron Arad, 2000. No doubt every design "connoisseur" in New York will be wearing it in the fall, but I like felt and I like this hat!

There you have it.

McCarren Park night track

Hundreds of people.

Runners. Families and kids.

Walkers. Soccer players.

Can you see the Empire State Building (way off in the background)?

Using the equipment. Hanging out.

Sitting on the benches.

I love it.

Watch out, world!

Yes, I have purchased several pompom makers: small, medium, large, and JUMBO!

No, I did not read the instructions.

First pompom:

I literally almost died laughing.

Second pompom:

Better!

Greggy wrist decoration.

Pretty.

Becky hair decoration!

Yeah, pompoms!

Wha-a-a-a-t??

Same artist—different neighborhood!

This is the third time I have seen this!

Alaskan Sun

Open 24/7 for twelve weeks, but the lamps never get very hot. Then they close for the rest of the year.

Sidewalk tree

Pretty.

Stick your head in it!

Farther!

Smells good.

You got to appreciate the little things.

Parking lot

I pass this place sometimes on the way to work from our new apartment.

Check out the shack!

"Please lock the gate or vacate." Hand painted, in a mixture of angled cursive, capital letters, and small caps! And it rhymes!

On the other side of the structure, a modern approach (this kind of blows my mind):

Also like a poem! Set in Helvetica! Weird!

And up above:

Yep, lots to read here.

Weekend joy

Chomp.

Mmmm, maple glaze.

Note

I have affixed a pompom to my sandal.

I advise you to do the same.

It's worth it

I am wearing these today.

My right foot is just a bit numb.

Finally!

Our new apartment is starting to feel like home.

Table is in place:

(Still working on hanging the art and fine-tuning the lighting, but at least we have a place to sit!).

I bought the newspaper. Greg made pork chops.

We ate a decent meal:

Our mice are on the table:

Important items are on the fridge!

It's good.

Down the street

Yes, it's a bum.

I am SO against this.

Summer styles

Before:

After:

It's not dignified is it, Kuan. But admit that you feel better without that fur coat!

Kuan lives in Montreal. She is a verrrry good kitty.

Ponyo!

I'm not going to say it's Miyazaki's best movie, but it has some good stuff in it!

Worth seeing—especially if you love the sea.
