More Astoria front yard decor

Check this out:

Yes, it's a homemade plaster pig standing in the dirt, with a little "straw" hat and flowers on its side.

Also: sunglasses! (Looks like it has cataracts?!)

And a little friend.

So so odd.

But at least it's not making me gag!

Astoria Park!

Omelette guards the picnic.

Thanks Omelette!

(Or do you spell it Omelet?)

New apartment

If I put sunflower seeds on the air conditioner outside the kitchen windows, will birds come and eat?

I HOPE SO!

(Note: infamous flesh-colored pebble in foreground mini cactus pot.)

Saturday, 4 pm

Walking slowly to the coffee shop, after 40 hours of packing, stacking, hauling, loading, driving, unloading, and hefting all of our belongings from the old apartment to the new one in humid, 90-degree heat.

I saw a chair on the street!

Me (excited): "Greg, let's go look at that chair!"

Greg (monotone): "There is no way in hell I am going to carry that chair anywhere."

Me: "Urm. OK baby."

No new chair.

Astoria, Queens

Lawn ornamentation:

ABSOLUTELY.

HORRIFYING.

ICK ICK ICK ICK ICK ICK ICK!!!

Chorney, come home!

"Chorney"?

Moving-day helper

Friend in a bag.

Not only were these gigantic, mysterious street bags excellent Beth swaddlers (she got over-excited and needed a "time out"), they were wonderfully useful for moving! I packed all our clothes in them, towels, stereo speakers, cleaning supplies . . . And we filled a few with our paper recycling as well:

And they're recyclable too! Best street find ever!

Picked up in Nova Scotia

Beautiful.

I did not fake the transcripts

I did in fact graduate from preschool.

Found while packing.

Hell on earth

It's gonna be a long day at 69 Sutton Street #2.

Wish me luck!

Greenpoint

Very beautiful.

But not so much from more than three feet away.

Uh, no.

Two years ago today, New York City Hall, Office of the City Clerk:

That's love for you, right there.

Yep.

Front hall

Then.

Now:

Greg took it all down last night so he could fill the holes. Saturday is moving day...

EXTREME HAPPINESS

Free download of The Complete Sherlock Holmes.

[Involuntary grin of joy]

Random things you find when you pack up your desk

Box that held a Christmas gift for me from Greg two years ago.

Awesome stamp kit bought at a yard sale last summer.

Semi-hilarious notes from some class I took (?).

Drawing I made of Greg doing his "oh snap" move.

It's all pretty great.

Found on the street!

Blue steel giraffe!

Very sturdy, excellent condition, many hooks, nice smile. Perfect for my new office!

I grabbed it, carried it across the street to our place, and left it by the door so I could continue scouting for boxes (we're moving this weekend).

When I came back:

GONE!

I actually felt bereft.

Christmas cactus redux

You remember this, this, and this, don't you?

Well, check this out!

I repotted the little guy (in a plastic container found on the street) then went away for two weeks. When I got back—amazing little bright-green sprouts! And a week later, new leaves!

I love nature.

Flying to Nova Scotia

Nice scenery inside the airplane too.

Aw yeah.

The Annapolis Valley

"From 'The Lookoff.' Blomidon, near Kentville and Wolfville, Nova Scotia."

I've had this old postcard for quite a while.

Late July, 2009:

Not much different!

Very scenic.

But even better in matching outfits, don't you agree?

I can only hope that one day Greg and I will achieve this style of matching dress. Also: walking in lockstep.

BLANKET UPDATE!

My sister loves it.

My nephew did not want his picture taken.

Bad aunt took it anyway :O

Snack break!

Cookies from home! In a bag!!

No sir, it doesn't take much to get me excited.

Hee hee

This squirrel wanted to be in the picture too!

And why shouldn't he?!

A power washer filled with paint

For when a spray can is not enough.

Acorns

Why do I like them so much?

I don't know, but can someone send me twenty bucks so I can buy these for myself?

Sanks!

Yay!

New rows on the giant granny square!

It's getting bigger and bigger . . . and gaudier!

Garbage

Just . . . stick it somewhere!

Here?

Hmm, or here?

Maybe here!

I often find vodka bottles in my basket.

America

Remember this?

Now look at these monsters:

Do you still think New York bagels are better?
