A lively smart assertive person

Once I was on the beach with Greg, and I wrote in big letters in the sand, "I LOVE GERG." Because that's my idea of a good joke.

Then Greg wrote, "GERG + REBERCKA," and a new nickname was born: Berky.

We both are obsessed with Scrabble on our new phones, and the other day he looked up "birkie."
I just find it sooooooooo cute that that is my nickname!!!!!!

"Birrrrrrkie." (Scottish accent)

Found on a trash can Friday night!

From 1963.

All the original cards, playing pieces, and dice!

The board is in pristine condition (never played?)--and the design is so great:

(I wonder who decided the whale should be wearing a cap??)

Dear Time magazine

Haven't you ever heard of an en-dash??

I was shocked—SHOCKED—to see this hyphen on the cover.

Which goes to show how low my shock threshold is and the types of things I spend my days fretting over.

CHECK OUT MY PLANTS

They got it going on!

My geranium has been blooming and blooming nonstop for months, and now the christmas cactus has caught on!

This is its first bloom ever—and it just sort of did it on its own.

Who knew it was white?

Snow

Not good for a cactus.

Lentil-walnut burgers

Yeah, Mollie Katzen!

I learned to cook with the Moosewood Cookbook when I was a teenager, so this was quite the trip down memory lane.

Katy and the Big Snow! First published in 1943.

Katy is a "beautiful red crawler tractor" with a snow plow.

I love the margin illustrations.

Katy saves the day!

Also by Virginia Lee Burton:

Remember when Ramona Quimby asked how Mike Mulligan went to the bathroom?

This little guy

Totally rocked my walk home!

I gave him a good pat down.

Found!

It's too bad the teddies got condiments all over their presents (they were eating hotdogs?).

Philip Guston

Great painter.

Great signature.

Sidewalk

Doesn't this look like a painting by my friend Beth?

Greg was here

Friday night

It was SO cold!!

I had to stay home and make minipies. (A bottle of wine and Battlestar Galactica were also involved.)

Christmas day

Greg consulting the cookbook in front of the woodstove.

Little sister starting her new book.

Me bonding with my new Christmas friends!

YES PLEASE!

My friend Mohanad bought forty acres of "raw" land in British Columbia.

It has two streams that run year round and an ELK TRAIL running through it! His plan is—log the Douglas fir to buy out the mortgage then build a cabin.

He has offered us 3.5 acres!!

Bent plywood

From the Industrial Revolution, to Charles and Ray Eames, to a Greenpoint trash pile.

Reminds me of this.

Hat skills

This guy's got em.

It was perched on the extreme rear of his cranium, but IT DIDN'T FALL OFF.

I was in literal awe.

That's right

This blog got its own line of bread.

Take that, haters!

Found

Miniature tam-'o-shanter.

Is it yours?

In the park

Impressive beige fluff.

Hmm

Soup tureen.

Or chamber pot?

I saw this on my way to work on my bike, and I had already had way too much stuff to carry. My plan was to come back for it later, but—I forgot.
