  3. You just start with one color, and make a swatch (square, rectangle, whatever). then choose another color, and start crocheting onto the first one, however you like. I mixed stictches a bit here--mostly single but some double crochet. It can be a little tricky joining the end of one row to the end of another row--well, not so much tricky as you want it to be as neat as possible (i assume). You just keep going, adding swatches, until it is whatever shape and size you want! Does this make sense? It's a "join-as-you-go" technique, meaning you join each new color shape to the mass of the previous shapes as you make it, rather than crochet the individual swatches, then sew them together.
