What the shit??

Do you see what I see?

It is eating ONE OF MY TOMATOES!!

So this is how they repay my kindness.

Unbe-flippin-lievable.

Birch Cove

This is the lake down the street from my Mom's house.

Some people are lucky.

Uh-huh

I did indeed drop my glasses into the toilet.

I admit that I bought this

Crocheted "grapes" trivet, made with bottlecaps.

Yes.

It's legit!

My friend's new driver's license pic.

They are permissive about such things at the Nova Scotia Registry of Motor Vehicles—you should see his old license!

But, oh boy—is he ever in trouble if he gets pulled over by the Mounties (notorious jerks).

Books I almost bought but then didn't

The Secret World of Teddy Bears: A Rare and Privileged Glimpse into the Lives They Lead When You're Not There.

Cattery Design: The Essential Guide to Creating Your Perfect Cattery.

An Exegetical Grammar of the Greek New Testament.

Cape Split

SOME people tend to kick themselves in the ankle quite a bit when they hike through the woods.

It's worth it though.

Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia.

Secret cat.

It's watching you.

This dog is very wide.

Dolce domum

First day back in New York:

My own favorite iced coffee in my own favorite glass.

The Wind in the Willows read on the bench by the window.

Trimming the mint.

Making iced tea for the fridge.

Homemade soup.

The washing and drying of the swimsuits.

It's not so bad.

The weary Mole also was glad to turn in without delay, and soon had his head on his pillow, in great joy and contentment. But ere he closed his eyes he let them wander round his old room, mellow in the glow of the firelight that played or rested on familiar and friendly things which had long been unconsciously a part of him, and now smilingly received him back, without rancour. . . . He saw clearly how plain and simple—how narrow, even—it all was; but clearly, too, how much it all meant to him, and the special value of some such anchorage in one's existence. He did not at all want to abandon the new life and its splendid spaces, to turn his back on sun and air and all they offered him and creep home and stay there; the upper world was all too strong, it called to him still, even down there, and he knew he must return to the larger stage. But it was good to think he had this to come back to; this place which was all his own, these things which were so glad to see him again and could always be counted upon for the same simple welcome.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

This morning at 6 a.m.

Sigh

Back from Knapp Lake.

I could cry.

I wonder

How are the skorlses and birdies doing? How many tomatoes are on my tomato plants? What has been deposited in the neighborhood trash cans lately?

Well . . . I DUNNO!

I'm on vacation!

Bye!

A lot of interesting things going on inside there, I bet.

More weird printed matter

I found this on the bookcase in the guestroom this morning:

Is this some kind of Jewish Boy Scouts thing?

Neither Greg nor I have any idea where it came from!

July 16, 2009

See this?

OK, now imagine it's 80 degrees Farenheit (27 Celcius), 75 percent humidity, and extremely smelly. And it's eight p.m. and you just left work. And your train rolled by as you walked onto the platform.

Yep. Vacation starts tomorrow night!

A little light reading
